World at War

This DVD explores various aspects of the Korean War and its effect on America. It includes footage of many events that took place during the war, shows prisoners of war being returned to America, shows relief supplies being flown in to Korea and much more.

How To Fly The B-26 Airplane Training Film is an in depth look at how to operate the Martin B-26 Bomber AKA the Marauder. This film, featuring Hollywood actor Don Porter as the pilot, demonstrates how to handle this remarkable aircraft and put it through its motions. The film is shown from the perspective of the pilot teaching the a Lieutenant the moves of operating this aircraft. It shows how they prepare the bomber for flight by going through a detailed checklist of pre-flight procedures and makes sure the plane is 100% ready to go before actually getting ready to fly. It then shows how the engines are started, a smooth takeoff and then an exploration of the limits and capabilities of the aircraft in the air. To make it even more exciting, it shows one engine failing and the steps needed to "glide" it back for a safe landing. This film is a rare and detailed look at one of our historic war planes.

Individual Protection Against Atomic Attack is the subject of this episode of The Big Picture. This film was actually used as a training film to educate soldiers against possible nuclear warfare. The film familiarizes soldiers with atomic detonations, explaining the short term and long term damage they can cause. It also delves deep into methods to protect themselves against the effects of an atomic attack. The goal of this film was to ensure maximum survivability of soldiers on the battlefield in the event of being found on an atomic battleground so they could continue to fight and win the day.

Infantry Operations is the subject of this episode of The Big Picture. This film explores the history of the Rifleman throughout American history. It looks back to the earliest immigrants who has only a musket for protection. It moves on to sharpshooter at Bunker Hill, Saratoga and other battles and how they were instrumental in the winning of the Revolutionary war. And them moves on to modern warfare and the rifles used on the modern battlefield. This film is interesting because it interweaves the evolution of the Army rifle and how its evolution dictated changes in the combat rifle tactics that were used on the battlefield.

Produced by the Department of Defense in 1975, this DVD takes a serious look at infectious/ communicable diseases. It explores how they are contracted, transmitted and how outbreaks are contained and destroyed. It also examines the role of hospital personnel to monitor signs of a potential communicable disease outbreak in the facility so that they can take steps to stop it before it becomes a major health hazard.

Produced by the The War Department, Special Service Division, Army Service Forces with the cooperation of The Signal Corps, this WWII era film was prepared to help U.S. WWII soldiers to know and understand our most important ally in WWII - Britain. The film includes a variety of scenes of British life, political situations and the role they are playing in the war against the Germans.

This army film was designed to familiarize US troops about the Vietcong - how they lived and their tactics in war.

Produced by the Department of Defense in 1960, this DVD shows how the U.S. Air Force leveraged their superior tactical and logistical air support during the Korean War to significantly help bring that war to an end. It includes fascinating footage of the endgame of the war.

Produced by the United States Army, this film examines treatment methods for the 20% of all battle casualties in the American Army during World War II; which were of a neuropsychiatric nature. The special treatment methods shown in this film, such as hypnosis and narcosynthesis, have been proven to be particularly successful in acute cases, such as battle neurosis. Interestingly the successes achieved in battle neurosis is much greater than when dealing with peacetime neuroses which are usually of a chronic nature suggesting that these therapies are best employed for acute neurotic conditions.

The Big Picture documentary Logistics in Vietnam details the logistical effort and facilities at the major supply ports and bases in Vietnam. It shows the role of Army Transportation, Aviation, Engineer, Quartermaster, Ordnance and Medical Services and how they all work together like a well oiled machine to support the men on the front lines.

This film traces the origin of the modern tank and the need to create a mobile armored vehicle (the M-60) that could carry enough firepower to break through machine gun emplacements and lead troops through the line of fire on to victory. In addition to discussing the usefulness of this powerful battle wagon, we learn the story of the development and testing of the M-60 tank before it was deployed in war zones.
