How Airplanes Fly was produced in 1968 by the Federal Aviation Administration. It is an excellent introduction to how airplane flight works. It is an easy to understand film that makes rich use of animation and live sequences to explain the principles of airplane flight. It covers all the basic concepts including how lift, the weight of the plane, its thrust, drag and other factors all have their impact on how any particular plane flies.
