The History of the American Civil is a three volume set published in 1868. It was written by John William Draper and is a comprehensive look at the events surrounding the entire period of the American Civil War. The volumes are chronological and cover the following time periods:

  • Volume 1 The causes of the War and the events preparatory to it, up to the close of President Buchanan's administration.
  • Volume 2 The events from the inauguration of President Lincoln to the proclamation of emancipation of the slaves.
  • Volume 3- The events from the proclamation of the emancipation of the slaves to the end of the war.
