The starting point in making coat racks is to determine the site that you want to situate the wall mounted coat rack. The size of the wall mounted coat rack and the amount of satin nickel hooks that are required for your project. The next step in creating your wall mounted coat rack is to determine what species of lumber and color you need to match your home interior decorations.

Once the decision has been confirmed as to the species of wood. We create Oak, Cherry and Maple wall mounted coat racks. You will need to determine a satin nickel hook design or a wood peg design. You can as a rule locate all the supplies you require at a local hardware store most have a big amount of satin nickel hooks and Shaker pegs and several different kinds of lumber. If you settle on exotic species of lumber such as Sycamore you may have to go to a mill-works.

It will be necessary to sand your wall mounted coat rack by and large up to 200 grit, this will leave a flat piece of wood rub on the finish on. Whether it be solid Sycamore or a brass hook coat rack that you are making .

Most people choose to use an oil base wiping finish such as manufactured by Deft. Make sure that your wall coat rack is clean. Decide the finish you want, be sure to mix the finish thoroughly. (hint: you may try the finish on spare piece of wood) Copiously wipe on the finish I as a rule use a clean cloth for this let the finish be absorbed for several minutes and remove the excess, if you want a deeper color reapply and rub the finish in.

After the finish has dried you may put on a clear finish. We finish our wall coat racks with a satin lacquer that is sprayed on you may use oil if you prefer. It is as a rule best to apply several coats you might wish to to sand with 320 in-between applications to dispose of any dust. After the final coat sand with 320 then use a burgundy scotch bright pad and some good quality wax to rub your wood coat rack to a desired finish.
