Commemorative stamps commemorate people, places, artwork and ideas and are hot collectibles.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>John Fitzgerald Kennedy was given this honor two times; once in 1964 and once in 1967.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-432\" title=\"john-f-kennedy-5-cent-stamp\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thehistoricalarchive.com\/happenings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/john-f-kennedy-5-cent-stamp.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" height=\"144\" \/>The first stamp was issued on May 29, 1964. On that day, the U.S. Post Office released the five cent\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehistoricalarchive.com\/categories\/Presidents\/jfk\/index.html\">John F. Kennedy<\/a> memorial stamp on what would have been Kennedy&#8217;s 47th birthday. The  issue was designed by Raymond Loewy\/William Snaith, a New York firm. It was based on an initial sketch by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing artist Robert L. Miller. His widow, Jacqueline Kennedy, was given the honor of making the final  selection for<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-431\" title=\"john-f-kennedy-13-cent-stamp\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thehistoricalarchive.com\/happenings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/john-f-kennedy-13-cent-stamp2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"145\" height=\"166\" \/> the artwork\u00c2\u00a0 from the many Postage stamp designs that were submitted.<\/p>\n<p>The second stamp was the 13 cent stamp issued in 1967. It was first issued in Brookline,  Massachusetts, on May 29 of that year.
